5 Tips to Feel More Comfortable in Front of the Camera | Bend Family Photographer

If you haven't been to modeling school like the majority of everyone then getting in front of the camera can be really uncomfortable and maybe something you avoid.

Here are 5 tips to help you feel more comfortable the next time you're having your pictures professionally taken.

1. Wear something your comfortable in and makes you feel confident! I'm not talking about wearing yesterday's jammies, I'm talking about that dress, or that top or those kick a** boots you love. Whatever it is, wear it!

2. Acknowledge that everyone has insecurities- getting pictures done can amplify that, I get it. Know that you are loved and beautiful regardless of your weight, shape of your nose, or anything else. Though pictures show the physical parts of our bodies they show more through how your interactions with your spouse or kids are. They can show love and joy. Your kids don’t see the imperfections you see. Your photographer should know the right angles to be flattering and make you feel confident and beautiful in your final pictures and throughout the picture taking process.

3. Ask for help posing if you don’t know what you should be doing. I can't tell you how many parents tell me, "We don't know what to do." I won't just show up to our session with a camera and have you guys figure it out. I will guide you through our whole session with prompts that will evoke genuine and candid emotions between you and your family. Your photographer should give you something to do, somewhere to look, someone to hold or touch so you can be in the moment with your kids and spouse during your session.

4. Have fun!! Kids feed off energy from parents. if you're tense, annoyed by how they're acting, or frustrated they will totally sense that. So if you are having fun and doing your best to be comfortable and playing with them during a session, then they will do the same! Ring around the rosie, tag, tickle monster, are all great ones to keep you and your kids happy!

5. Move around- I think the most awkward and stress inducing parts of a session are trying to get everyone to keep still and looking at me. So I make sure to get those done first and out of the way. Sway a baby in your arms, walk holding hands with your spouse, or dance with a kid. It feels more natural and you’ll be more comfortable this way!

Hope these help the next time your in front of the camera!
