Snowy Winter Family Session- Salt Lake Family Photographer

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, winter sessions just hit different (in a good way)! I know winter months can bring plenty of grumpy faces to some. But I am fully on board with snowy family sessions. The snow just photographs differently and unlike normal sunny and non-snow conditions, you can actually interact with your location. Snow provides basically a free playground for snow ball fights, sledding, and lots of fun that you wouldn’t normally get. SO thank you to the families that have fully embraced the winter landscape and made our sessions so fun! This family moved to Utah, and they did not get a lot of snow there so they wanted to wait and have a session in the snow, we even pushed back our date because there wasn’t enough snow yet. I am so glad we were patient because look at these beautiful results!

Snowy sessions do bring some different challenges that you may not have in other months. You need layers and hand warmers and accessories to keep hands and ears and feet warm. This family nailed it with their outfits and no one was complaining about being cold even after an hour session. When you are running around and chasing each other and pulling a kid on a sled you won’t be cold for long. Also for kids, bring back ups! If you want to do knit mittens those will be wet after a little while, either layer their gloves or have a back up pair to switch out to avoid crying cold kids.

I am still hoping that we get more snow like this in Utah this winter, but if snowy pictures are something you are wanting, there is still plenty of snow up towards Snowbasin and Park City. I have sleds and a blanket to sit on that I bring to snowy sessions. I hope all families book a winter session at some point. It’s fun to have pictures in all seasons. SO don’t be afraid of bundling up and braving the cold, you’d be surprised how much kids love the snow sessions!

Don’t be afraid of the cold! Let’s do the dang thing and have fun in the winter! Plus you will have way more availability for scheduling because everyone else will have booked their pictures in the Fall. What’s holding you back from trying out a winter session?
