5 Reasons You Hate Getting Your Picture Taken

Do you have someone in your family who hates getting pictures taken? Who always makes sure to be behind everyone in a group shot or is holding something in front of them to cover their body? Don’t worry most adults don’t love getting their picture taken.

Here’s some tips to help them or you 😉:

1. Style and wardrobe are everything! Ever heard that saying "When you feel good, you look good"? Now on the flip side have you ever felt your best in a pair of sweat pants, day three on dry shampoo and you ate an entire plate of Olive Garden’s chicken Alfredo the night before? Probably not. When you wear something that is flattering and makes you feel good you’re bound to feel better about getting your picture taken! I have outfit guides and give suggestions on where to find the best outfits when dressing your family

2. You haven’t had professional pictures done in a lonnnnng time. Ever been tagged in a dozen of the most unflattering pictures of yourself by your Great Aunt Louise from that cruise 3 years ago to Jamaica? And then you hurried to untag yourself before all your Facebook friends saw? #beenthere🙋🏼‍♀️

Don’t worry though, the pictures your Great Aunt Louise took aren’t really an accurate portrayal of you. There is a good type of candid picture to capture and a bad. You're Aunt Louise isn't a pro so she isn't capturing you in a flattering light, but I'm a pro and that's exactly what my goal is. You don’t need pictures of yourself eating from the buffet or cooking on the beach like a lobster in your bathing suit. You need the candid shots enjoying your kids, hugging your spouse and capturing how you guys show love in your family.

3.You haven’t been posed well in previous pictures. Ever had a bad experience with a previous photographer and now this has left you scared to 1) throw a bunch of money into something you don't know what the final outcome will be 2) You feel awkward in front of the camera. Modeling school isn't a prerequisite for getting any type of pictures done. You just need a good photographer who can pose you in flattering ways confidently and clearly.

4. Insecurities. Whether it’s additional weight gain or a specific feature about yourself, it’s probably the first thing you notice when you see a picture of yourself. You shouldn’t feel like by NOT documenting a hard stage of life you're in is MORE worth it than not having those memories, especially if kids are involved. I have been there, so I get it. But looking back now, If I had kids when my insecurities were at an all time high, they would have been worth it to get in the picture for. You can always voice your insecurities to me prior to a session, I will do everything I can to replace those past negative experiences or negative thoughts you have about yourself and give you the most compliment filled session you've had. A good photographer will listen to your concerns and do their best to pose you in a way to give you results that you will be happy with!

5. Your mirror isn’t showing an accurate depiction of yourself. It’s a reverse of what you actually look like so don’t get hung up on it! Have you ever looked at yourself in your mirror at home and then gone to a department store and tried something in the dressing room and thought you looked 5 pounds heavier? You didn't just gain weight on the drive over, not all mirrors are the same. So don't get hung up on what you're looking at in the mirror because the truth is, the camera doesn't add 10 pounds. It shows the accurate depiction of what you look like to everyone else. You’re prettier in person anyways 😉 All you need is a good photographer who knows how to pose well to take care of the rest.

So the next time the opportunity presents itself to have your picture taken, don't disappear into another room or refuse the opportunity. Look for an awesome photographer who will give you a great experience and results that you'll be happy with. Here’s some proof for you to see that I mean what I say and you can get beautiful pictures of your family!
