Spring Blossoms at the Utah Capitol Building

If you are in Utah then you have probably heard all the buzz about the blossoms at the Utah Capitol building. Spring definitely took a while to show up this year but it is now here in all its glory. The blossoms line the entire circle around the State Capitol and make it like the warmest snow you actually want to stick around. They definitely draw a crowd but they’re worth it for how beautiful they are. I decided to take the kids up before school one day since we have afternoon kindergarten. Got them all dolled up and I never regret taking updated pictures of my kids. This literally was 10 minutes so I don’t have tons of variety but this is to show you how pretty they are.

Soren literally gave me 4 good shots. He kept getting rocks in his shoes and sad so he gave e a few good smiles and then sat on the side lines. Auden loves a good picture moment. Girlfriend always shows up and is ready for all eyes on her. These kids have grown so much in just a few short months and being able to document them regularly is such a blessing.

Here’s a few suggestions if you want to visit or get pictures done at the Capitol building in Salt Lake:

1) Plan for crowds. You may be waiting for people to pass or have to edit people out of your shots. When someone says these draw a lot of attention they aren’t kidding. These only show up for a couple weeks each year and are essentially the “Cherry Blossoms of Japan” in Utah. Plan for extra time for parking and getting the shots you want.

2) If you can, go in the morning! Crowds are much smaller and parking is much easier. Though you may have a little more direct light to deal with you can see there is enough shade from the blossom trees to still get great pictures.

3) The back side of the capitol building is under construction, so just know this leads to more congestion and less parking. You can probably make the blossoms on that side work but you’ll have to have construction vehicles in your shots.

4) And if you have sensitive feet kids like mine maybe plan closed toed shoes into your outfits spot they can happily walk around and feel comfortable.

Hope these tips help and if you are wanting to do a mini session there please reach out ASAP cause these won’t be here much longer!
