That One Time We Went to Europe - Salt Lake Photographer

It’s been almost a year since my husband and I took a trip to Denmark and Spain. My husband is the planner in our relationship and he knocked it out of the park with all of the research he did and the routes he planned for our trip. I am that partner that literally just showed up and asked what are we doing every day. Meanwhile my husband had the most detailed and thought out itinerary for our time in Denmark and Spain. My Grandma actually immigrated to the US from Denmark when she was 18, so we still have distant relatives who are in Denmark. We were able to stay with a Nephew of my Grandma’s and it was such an awesome experience to get a more local experience. We ate all the good food and literally everything in Denmark is so picturesque. A photographer’s dream really.

Some of our highlights was seeing Hamlet’s Castle, a boat tour of Copenhagen, so many cool industrial sites that they’ve turned into giant indoor food carts, Viking Museums, Skagen to see where the two seas come together. I am not exaggerating when I say every part of Denmark which we saw, which was a lot because we drove the majority of the country, was beautiful. It helps it was also Spring time so everything was in blossom. So much history and pride in their country. Another major plus is everyone also speaks english there so you will not be left struggling to get around.

Spain is another country close to my heart as I served a mission for my church there for a year and a half. The people are wonderful, the food is incredible, and again the history and architecture is so great. We spent the majority of our time in Madrid and Barcelona. When I was living there I was in the southern part of Spain, which we didn’t have time to see. But as long as I got to eat Paella it didn’t matter what part of Spain we were in. Honestly we preferred Madrid to Barcelona. And if we were to do it again we would have spent more time there. But we did get to see a soccer game while we were there, which if you know anything about Spain, they live and breath soccer. It was a great highlight of our trip!

It was an unforgettable trip! Mostly because it ended with a concussion and covid as soon as we got back, but that’s a story for another time. If you ever have the opportunity to visit either of these countries you won’t be disappointed. The culture is so rich, the food is incredible, and the architecture and history will knock you socks off.
